East 42 – Timpview 10, D1 Game Review

First, give the East coaching staff some well deserved credit.  Timpview had a solid game plan in place, but Coach Matich made some great adjustments, and never lost composure, during early adversity.  His team was a direct reflection of that. Coach Bowers also made some great adjustments on defense, and shut down a solid Timpview offense.

This game started out, with all of the hype in place.  Both defenses came out strong.  Then, 2018 East DB/ATHJaylon Vickers changed the game, with a Pick 6.  He then came back and scored on a 50+ yard bomb, thrown by Ben Ford.  Vickers ended up with two picks in the first half alone.  Vickers has upped his rating with us, and has made a strong case as one of the top DB’s in the state, as of today.  One more dominant performance like this in the next few games and he will be the first DB with an “A” rating, on our D1 system.

When Vickers started to dominate the game; he looked like “Prime Time” Deion Sanders.  2018 East running back Sione Molisi started heating up as well, bursting through the front 7 for multiple big runs, including a 50+ yard run, that was called back on a cheap holding call, that had nothing to do with the play from my view. Molisi is the real deal at running back. Charlie Vincent also looked smooth on his touchdown reception.

The East front seven defense; led by Viliami Tausinga, Apu Ika, and Charlie Johnson rose to the occasion, and started making game changing plays up front.  Tausinga was sideline to sideline the whole not, and had a pick 6 that cemented the victory. That front seven shut down Timpview’s running game, and had Timpview QB Ramos; running for his life the whole night. They showed why they are some of the top players in the state, at their respected positions.

On the first series; Timpview was able to drive the ball, with a short passing game, let by Ramos, but the East defense adjusted incredibly well after that first series.  Coach Matich and his staff, deserves some hard core credit, for the changes that they made.

I like what I saw from Ramos.  He was under pressure the whole night, and still made some impressive throws. The Timpview receivers had quite a few drops, but credit that to the East defense.  Those receivers knew that they were about to get hit.  I really like what I saw from the Timpview defense.  I think they are going to give many teams trouble.
