This class is a special one. It won’t get the national attention, but this core group will definitely win a lot of football games. Here are the players that we were able to evaluate:
The Additions to the Passing Game
Brayden Cosper (Bingham HS) and Dallin Holker (Lehi HS) have the ability to turn around the BYU offense within a year. Both players have the size, strength, and athleticism to play immediately and contribute. If Brayden Cosper was at a passing school, he would easily be considered one of the top wide receivers in the country. BYU will give him that opportunity to showcase his arsenal. Dallin Holker was one of the top tight ends in the country this past season, in my opinion. If these two stay healthy, they will be tremendous players for this BYU program.
Now, throw in Zac Wilson (Corner Canyon), Issac Matua (Kearns HS), and Kade Moore (Lehi HS), and you’ll start to see the way this class fits together, and compliments one another. I had Power 5 schools contact me about Wilson, including a SEC school. Moore is stud, that will win many fans with his blue collar work ethic and production. Matua is a player that can help the Cougars on either side of the ball.
Two Talented OL Players
Two other players that I really like are Connor Pay (Lone Peak HS) and Tysen Lewis (Weber HS). Both players were two of the top offensive lineman in the state this past season. Lewis is probably the most athletic lineman in the state, and one of the most underrated. I watched him overpower players that will playing at Power 5 schools next season, like it was nothing. I mean driving these guys 8-10 yards down the field, while laughing at their trash talking; just to repeat the same thing the next play and drive them 8-10 yards downfield again. I watched Pay play a couple of times last season. After my second evaluation of him, I without question thought that he was a Power 5 player.
A Stud LB
Tausinga (East HS) was one of my favorite players to watch last season. His ability to play a tenacious; sideline to sideline game is unique, and greatly needed versus spread teams. I’m curious where Issac Matua (Kearns HS) will start off. He has a world of potential at QB, especially in a RPO scheme. In saying that, he can also play LB, DE, & TE. Wherever he ends up, I’m confident he will be a big time player for this program.
The Preferred Walk-ons
I’m from the Oklahoma City area. I grew up a die hard OU football fan; just like the rest of the state. In saying that, I’ve never seen anything like the incoming preferred walk-on class at BYU. Maybe it’s a school tradition, that I was unaware of. Regardless, these incoming pwo’s are talented football players, that greatly enhance the strength of this recruiting class.
Getting a players like Jaylon Vickers (East HS), Alex Palmer (Skyridge HS), Kade Moore (Lehi HS), as walk ons, is UNREAL. Add players like Connor Ebeling (Corner Canyon), Lincoln Bunker (Lehi), and it almost becomes unfair. Alex Palmer was one of the biggest sleepers in the state of Utah last season. If his film was sent out to the right schools, he would have easily had 3 or 4 D1 offers, in my opinion. Kade Moore seems like the type of player every coach would want on his staff. He’s hard working, a great leader, and a very talented player. Jaylon Vickers was easily a D1 caliber player, according to our staff. Many schools missed out on him.
Overall, this class is a good one. This staff done a great job recruiting the in-state players. Coach Sitake is one of the best talent evaluators that I’ve come across. It’s only a matter of time before this program starts to take off again.
